Your Anchors & How They Keep You From Your Weight Loss Goals

Posted in University of Sports on August 1st, 2008

Anchors are the reasons that attach you to any behavior. Your anchors originated from extremely strong repetitive memory associations, which are triggered by your five senses of hearing, vision, smell, taste, and touch. You are constantly being anchored in different ways through out your life. For example, when you hear a certain song and it brings back a memory of a certain person, or a place in time, this is an audio anchor or an anchor triggered by your sense of hearing.

Have you ever met someone for the first time and noticed that something about them reminds you of someone or something else? This is a visual anchor or an anchor triggered by your sense of sight. Until now all of your anchors have been installed in your subconscious mind by someone else or by accident and in most cases you were not even aware of them. Now for the first time through the process of Burris MIND/FITNESS, you can learn how to anchor a reaction or behavior you want on purpose and consistently get the results you want over and over, until you are assured of attaining your weight goal.

It is important to understand that your subconscious mind can be triggered into a negative anchored behavior without even pausing to consider what it is doing. It is this type of behavior that is responsible for your worst eating habits. I refer to this type of behavior as “No Thought Eating.” At the time of “No Thought Eating” your subconscious mind has given no consideration to what it is doing and your conscious mind is not even aware that anything is taking place.

A good example of this is when you are feeling fearful, guilty angry, or bored. You immediately look for something to eat, even if you are not hungry. In most cases you will look for what you refer to as your comfort foods, which is anything that is high in sugar, fat or both. Let us say you come across a bag of cookies, without any hesitation you eat one and before you realize it, you are eating the whole bag. Sometime during this “No Thought Eating” binge your conscious mind awakens to what is taking place. You stop your eating binge and now along with feeling fearful, guilty, angry, or bored; you are also probably a little nauseous. The first thought that pops into your mind is: “Why Did I Eat That? I wasn’t even hungry!” How many times have you asked yourself this self-defeating negative question “Why Did I Eat That?”

The second you asked yourself this question, your subconscious mind is triggered into action to find an answer, which in turn produces a correlating picture. Surprise, surprise what did it find in your subconscious eating behavior program? It found you ate the cookies because you were feeling fearful, guilty, angry, or bored. Of course it did because that is exactly how you were programmed as a child to react to fear, guilt, anger, or boredom. Once again your subconscious mind will take this answer and the correlating picture of you being overweight and use it to anchor you even deeper to your childhood program.

Here is where the fun starts, what you have to do in order to change your existing negative anchored behaviors of “No Thought Eating?” You simply restructure your question from its negative form of “Why did I eat that?” to a positive form question of “How can I stop this no thought eating when I am feeling fearful, guilty, angry, or bored?” Your subconscious mind will now produce a positive answer to your new positive question such as: When you are feeling fearful, guilty, angry or bored, find an activity you enjoy in place of eating. Once again these new answers will produce empowering correlating pictures that will move you toward your weight goal. It is truly that simple, positive empowering questions = positive empowering results.
From this time on, it is essential that you are always conscious of your inner voice, thereby insuring that all of your self-questions are positive ones and insuring that you always maintain a positive emotional state.

Regardless of weather your goal is a change in diet for weight loss, an increase in your fitness program or to take control of an eating disorder such as anorexia or bulimia. In the end the question you need to ask yourself is…Am I completely happy with the mind running itself or do I need to take control of it? If your answer is I need to take control of it, then Burris MIND/FITNESS is the answer.

The health of your body is dependent on your mental health and taking control of the subconscious is the key to lasting permanent change of any behavior.

Managers Reward Behaviors They Want Repeated

Posted in University of Sports on July 31st, 2008

This basic management principle will go a long way toward helping managers raise the productivity of their organizations. Yet, in their haste to get the job done, many managers forget this principle and focus more on punishment than reward.

Back in my corporate life, my company hired a management trainer to come into our organization to help us fine-tune our management skills. I’ll never forget one of the techniques he used to teach us this principle.

First, he sent one of the seminar attendees out of the room. Then he asked one of us to hide a playing card. If I remember correctly, the card was hidden inside one of the books on the shelf in the meeting room. The attendee was then called back into the room and asked to find the playing card.

Of course, he had no idea where to look, so one of us was given a small bell to ring when his movements took him in the direction of where the card was hidden. If he turned the wrong way, the bell was silent.

It was amazing. In just a couple of minutes he was standing in front of the bookshelf. In another minute, he had the correct book in his hands and flipped through it until he found the playing card. Grand total: Maybe three minutes.

Then the seminar leader tried the opposite approach. He sent another attendee out of the room and another playing card was hidden. Only this time when the attendee returned to the room, he received a stinging slap on the upper arm with a rolled up newspaper each time he made the wrong move; that is, when he moved in the wrong direction.

Instead of continuing to use a trial and error approach like the first attendee used to successfully find the playing card, this attendee froze to avoid both the discomfort of the newspaper and the humiliation he felt in front of his peers. He simply stood still. He quit trying.

Lesson learned: Employees learn faster and more comfortably when managers use rewards versus punishment to achieve desired behavior. The sound of the bell ringing rewarded positive behavior and the sting of the newspaper punished negative behavior.

Another example is when an employee violates a company rule. It’s important to take immediate action. If other employees observe that you have allowed one of their fellow employees to violate the rule — and you take no corrective action — that is the same as rewarding negative behavior. You are sending the message that being a few minutes late is okay. Every organization must have minimum conditions of employment and enforce those minimums.

I worked with a manager on a consulting assignment recently who complained to me that he had been unable to get one of his employees to meet deadlines. Yet he had taken no action. In fact, he had never even sat the employee down and dealt with the unacceptable behavior. When I interviewed the woman, she had told me that her relationship with her manager was excellent. As it turned out, she has actually received a raise just a few months earlier and her review was totally positive.

If managers want different results, they must reward the behaviors they wish to see more of. Most employees want to please their supervisor. Most employees want to do good work. Managers generally get the behavior that they reward.

Residential Investors - Move Up to the Big Dollars

Posted in University of Sports on July 28th, 2008

1.Bigger Profits - bigger profits are in bigger deals. Working in the average price range and above in your area is a good place to start. Big-time investors say go where the money is at 2 to 3 times your average area sale price and higher. There are more handyman investors chasing the smaller deals and actually driving up the prices therefore making minimal profits.

2.Locate the Property - These homes are available in almost every neighborhood. All over the country are foreclosure homes in every price range. There are million dollar foreclosures right here in Charlotte, NC. Work with a professional real estate agent be aggressive go after the bigger deals where there is less competition.

3.Making Offers - the process is the same in no matter what the price range you work. Determine after repair value, subtract repairs, subtract carrying costs, subtract your overhead, and subtract your profit (minimum $25,000) equals maximum offer. Offer something way less than that and then negotiate to somewhere under your maximum offer amount.

4.Financing -not very often are you going to get the same bank to finance a foreclosure deal. You can possibly get a bank to finance a construction loan if you can wade through all the paperwork, use your credit cards (old school) best are to keep on finding outside sources like hard money lenders, partners, private lenders, your self directed IRA, someone else’s self directed IRA or anyone of your contacts who wants to make 10% to 12% on a first mortgage secured by real estate.

5.Repairs/Renovation - speed and quality are what you need and are expecting from you workers. Hire or have on your team a group of excellent and competent contractors and suppliers. They may cost more but your savings in the 2 to 3 or 4 months in extra carrying cost after shoddy workmanship will off set the additional expense. Time is money, in this case big money.

6.Marketing/Selling - start selling before you close on the purchase. Advertise for sale by owner when the agreement for sale is signed by you and the seller. You may be able to turn over the property at a profit and let your buyer close with the seller without any expense on your part. What is the ROI of $10,000 with $0 investment? Begin your advertising as an “as is” price, increase your sale price as you have work scheduled and ordered. By waiting until the project is complete to start advertising will put you 3 to 4 months behind in the process.

Working where the money is, is the same process as working on cheap houses just by adding more zeros to the end of the check. You work in better neighborhoods your appliances and fixtures won’t get ripped off every weekend. There are more opportunities to sell in a place where people really want to live.

This year European climber Anthony Loeff is reporting the scales for Mount Everest and Kilimanjaro

Posted in Adventure, University of Sports, Web Of Travel on July 27th, 2008

They flexed their muscles this year all the in name of the Olympic spirit, but it was hardly spirited at all.”

As he planned for the climb, Sherchan told reporters he wanted to inspire fellow senior citizens. He also said many Nepalese have established records on Chomolungma or Mount Everest, so it was only fitting that the record for the oldest climber to reach the summit should also belong to a Nepali. The 76-year-old man from Nepal is now the oldest person to have reached the top of Mt Everest. Min Bahadur Sherchan returned this week from Nepal after successfully climbing to the summit of Everest. With the Chinese preparing for the impending summer Olympic Games, Andrew Brash noted that the government’s actions hardly reflected the Olympic spirit. Sherchan just 7 days away from his 77th birthday beat the age record set last year by 71-year-old Japanese teacher Katsusuke Yanagisawa.

Now that Bahadur Sherchan has successfully scaled the tallest mountain in the world, he is once again ready to focus on his family. Andrew Brash last attempt resulted in the rescue of Lincoln Hall, an Australian climber who was left by his team in the “death zone.”

More than 3235 people have climbed to the summit since it was first conquered in 1953 by New Zealander Edmund Hillary, who died in January, and Nepal’s Tenzing Norgay.

Andrew Brash and four climbing guides reached the 29,035-foot (8,850-meters) summit of the world’s highest mountain early Sunday, said Ramesh Chretri, an official with Nepal’s ministry of tourism.

His first found him within 184 metres of the peak when his team stopped to help a fellow mountaineer who was left for dead. Three years later, Min Bahadur Sherchan, a University of Calgary alumni, returned to Chomolungma to finish what he had started.

The Chinese were flying their airplanes over the Mount Everest and had Chinese officials in Kathmandu. “The Chinese weren’t allowing anybody on Chomolungma. They ended up commandeering it for themselves, even though Everest is shared by two countries. Further, the decision to actualize a long-time personal goal left Bahadur Sherchan with some internal uncertainties, he cited the political actions of China and Nepal as providing the greatest adversity he faced on his journey. However, he was all too aware of the potential dangers the Mount Everest could bring. Certain parts of the climb are more dangerous than others and it is important for climbers to remain focused Hall was frostbitten and severely disoriented due to altitude sickness. “Mount Everest this year became a political pawn,” he said with some frustration.

Increase Business by Squashing Your Fear of Phones

Posted in University of Sports on July 24th, 2008

Phone skills are very important when you have your own home business. If you are like me, when I started out, then you may think you are going to work entirely online and not use the phone. However, there will come times in your business when you must talk on the phone. In fact, you will probably talk on the phone a lot when you have an “online” home business.

There are times when you will need to call prospects, talk to business partners, answer questions that someone has, or some other business task that requires the phone. You may be saying, “No matter what I guarantee I will never call anyone” but what if someone calls you? You will need phone skills then too!

The problem with this phone fact is that most people are scared to talk business on the phone. We have a fear of failure or rejection on the phone that causes us to make mistakes in our speech, forget what we want to say, or just totally freeze up. Don’t let this fear stop you or slow you down. You can actually develop great phone skills rather quickly.

If you want to reap all the benefits of being your own boss then you will have to overcome your fear sooner or later. In order to complete this task you must develop a strong desire to have good phone skills and let nothing stand in your way.

Think about it, when you are on the phone the other person can’t see you. They don’t know if you have messed up or said something wrong. They don’t know that you haven’t showered today. They can’t see that you are nervous or scared. Also, if you really get bogged down, and need to get out, all you have to do is hang-up. So, what are you really scared of? If it’s still rejection then get used to it! You will get rejected more times than not. We all do!

Don’t know how to start? Here are five basic techniques to help you in acquiring your new phone skills:

1) The Opening-If you are the one doing the calling then you must have a good way to open up the conversation. You really only have a few seconds before the person on the other end decides whether they are going to listen or not. There are a few things in your opening that you need to have; your name, the reason for the call, and why they should care about what you have to say. You should also be prepared with some basic opening information in case someone calls you out of the blue. Rehearse all of your openings often so it becomes like second nature to you.

2) Your Attitude-Smile during the conversation. It’s true that they can’t see you but smiling will make your voice sound positive, upbeat, and friendly. You also need to be confident. Your confidence will show them that you truly stand by your product or business. They must believe that they really need you. Remember “NO” might really mean “I still need to be convinced.”

3) Manners-It’s really easy to get caught up in a conversation and start talking like you do with your friends. Remember this is a professional call. Avoid repeated phrases or nervous laughs. Don’t chew gum or eat while on the phone. Also, keep your mouth a few inches from the phone so you aren’t too loud or muffled. Most of all, watch your language. Nothing will end your conversation faster than letting one of those naughty 4-letter words slip out.

4) Surroundings-It is best to be in a quiet and comfortable place away from distractions. If you are interrupted you may forget what you were saying causing you to sound very unprofessional.

5) Information-It is a very good idea to have everything you may need readily available. Have all information organized and accessible within seconds. At the very least you should have your website open, the compensation plan in front of you, and a list of answers to frequently asked questions handy. Another very important tool to have is a script. With a script you have your lines in front of you ready to go. However, it’s best not to totally rely on a script. I say this because the conversation can stray from it very easily.

Well, there you go! Now you have some basic techniques to help you squash your fear of phones and become more professional. I doubt you will be able to do it in one day but with some practice, repetition, and persistence you will sound like a veteran in no time. Trust me if you face your fear now it will pay off big later!

6 Simple Steps To Avoiding Expensive Car Repairs

Posted in University of Sports on July 23rd, 2008

Quite often, a visit to the car repair shop can be even more painful than a visit to your dentist. Perhaps physical pain it’s involved, but some car repairs can leave your wallet feeling pretty empty and you with a bad taste in your mouth. The best way to avoid costly repairs is to take preventative steps that will keep your car in the best condition possible.

The first thing to do is to follow the maintenance schedule as outlined in your owner’s manual. The best one is always that recommended by the manufacturer and if you fail to follow those guidelines, your warranty may be voided for future repairs. Always be sure to change fluids, filters and spark plugs as the car’s manufacturer recommends.

Upgrade your motor oil to a high performance synthetic oil, which can help to prevent certain problems and can also improve your car’s performance.

Always be sure that your tires are properly inflated. This is especially important because tires with too little air, or too much, can result in excessive wear and may cause a blow out. It is often recommended that tire pressure be checked during every visit to the gas pump. While this may seem like a lot, you won’t be sorry that you have kept your tires in the best shape possible. For reasons of both safety and the expense of new tires, this exercise is well worth it.

If you notice unusual noises on your car, check with your owner’s manual for information. Quite often, noises are perfectly normal and there is no need for concern. Your owner’s manual will let you know whether or not a visit to the car repair shop is necessary.

If you do have to take your car in for repairs, be sure that you are dealing with a reputable company. Check with the local Better Business Bureau and ask your family or friends for recommendations.

When it comes time to begin the repairs, get an estimate in writing. A quality repair shop will be able to provide this information and should also be able to assure you that the repairs will not exceed 10% of a specific dollar amount as outlined in the estimate.

The aforementioned steps will help to keep your car running smoothly and may also keep some extra bucks in your wallet. With the cost of gasoline prices these days, a few extra dollars can go along way.

What is the Secret About a Multilevel Marketing Business?

Posted in University of Sports on July 22nd, 2008

Maybe it is the stigma attached to it, that all MLM businesses are scam, fake and plainly out there to get your money. In fact nothing could be further from the truth. Yes, there are some nasty people out there who operate MLM businesses, but there are a whole lot of ethical, honest and fantastic business opportunities out there who will give you a once in a lifetime chance of becoming financially independent.

As Jim Rohn quotes “We all have two choices, we can make a living or design a life.”

An MLM business will give you choices in life, you wouldn’t normally have as an employee. It is a well known and proven fact, that the worlds most self made millionaires come from a Network Marketing business!

So what is Network Marketing, and why is it so special? Well, have you ever asked yourself, why products in the shops are so expensive? For example: The farmer in the field grows apples, once they are ripe he takes the produce to the market, where it is bid upon for a good price. The farmer then gets his cut! Now the buyer sets the price for the wholesale purchaser- who buys them, and then sells the apples to a shop/supermarket. So by the time you go shopping, a fare share of middlemen has taken their cut on your apple, therefore it is often unnecessarily expensive.

As opposed to above scenario, a Network Marketing business is run by an Independent Distributor who buys and sells the products directly to the customer! This effectively cuts out on unnecessary middlemen; therefore you as the customer will get proper value for your dollar. But it doesn’t stop there! The Independent Distributor delivers often outstanding personal after sale service you get free of charge and wouldn’t normally get while buying in a shop. Also, the overheads of a MLM business are very low compared to a traditional business, there is no staff to employ, no shop to lease, no goodwill to pay and generally very low start up costs. All in all a MLM business gives the Distributor a low risk chance of becoming financially independent!

You probably say to yourself now, yes, I can see that, but why is it then, that over 90% of MLM businesses fails within their first 2 years? It is simple, even if it sounds harsh. When people get into their own MLM business they often overestimate, what they can earn in the short term ( 1-3 years) and underestimate, what they can earn in the long term ( 3 + years)

It takes a hardworking, reliable, ethical, commited, disciplined and caring person, to run a successful Network Marketing business and it is coupled with a lot of tears, hard work, failure and joy. Also the individual has to commit to ongoing Personal Development.

Once you grow as a person, your business will grow!

So if you think you have what it takes, I suggest you seriously research these fantastic opportunities.

Airsoft Handguns - The Perfect Gift For Every Thirtysomething Kid

Posted in University of Sports on June 28th, 2008

They’re not in the same category as a kids toys but airsoft pistols are an ideal hobby for any adult or young adult. Unlike paintball guns or normal airguns airsoft hanguns are designed to look just like the real thing. This has posed a problem for airsoft gun owners over the years due to airsoft pistols being used in “armed” robberies. Believe me when one of these is pointed in your face it looks just like the real thing. To combat this danger airsoft manufactures are now making many of their airguns in clear plastics and/or with an orange flash at the tip of the barrel to counteract this problem.

Your airsoft pistol is capable of firing a 6mm plastic bb at speeds of up to 300 feet per second which while not dangerous to exposed arms or legs could definitely cause damage to unprotected eyes. Always, always use safety glasses when firing an airsoft gun indoors or outdoors. A ricochet can happen quite easily and the results can be horrific. The actual power of your handgun will depend on the firing mechanism used. Your choices are spring, gas and electric. Spring and gas offer the highest power range but the newer AEG blowback handguns look pretty neat too.

Bear in mind too that a spring airsoft gun will need to be cocked for every single shot whereas the gas and AEG models offer fully automatic fire rates. The spring pistols will be cheaper but are a little bit more clumsy to use. The gas blowback models really mimic the real thing - especially when the topslide flies backwards after each shot.

One thing you won’t need to worry about when buying an airsoft handgun is finding your favourite weapon. The choice is truly staggering with all the popular brands making an appearance - Glock,Beretta and the Desert Eagle being amongst the most popular. For the true airsoft nut you can even get the Robocop M93R handgun - although these are getting tough to find nowadays.

Just like the real thing your airsoft handgun needs to be loaded before firing so you’ll need to fill the clip with bbs before you can start target practice. The bbs themselves are available in a variety of colors and styles - including paintball and glow-in-the-dark; so there’s a bb to suit everyones taste.

Indoor or outdoor airsoft handguns offer a fun and entertaining hobby that can be enjoyed safely by just about the entire family. As always these guns are not really toys and should not be used by children unattended.

Also please do check local laws in relation to owning an airsoft handgun - they are banned in some countries. Check your local, state and national laws to ensure that possessing an airsoft pistol isn’t against the law. There have been several cases of airosft guns being mistaken for real weapons by police forces worldwide - sometimes with tragic consequences.

Nepalese climber, 77, oldest climber to reach the top of Chomolungma
