Increase Business by Squashing Your Fear of Phones

Posted in University of Sports on July 24th, 2008

Phone skills are very important when you have your own home business. If you are like me, when I started out, then you may think you are going to work entirely online and not use the phone. However, there will come times in your business when you must talk on the phone. In fact, you will probably talk on the phone a lot when you have an “online” home business.

There are times when you will need to call prospects, talk to business partners, answer questions that someone has, or some other business task that requires the phone. You may be saying, “No matter what I guarantee I will never call anyone” but what if someone calls you? You will need phone skills then too!

The problem with this phone fact is that most people are scared to talk business on the phone. We have a fear of failure or rejection on the phone that causes us to make mistakes in our speech, forget what we want to say, or just totally freeze up. Don’t let this fear stop you or slow you down. You can actually develop great phone skills rather quickly.

If you want to reap all the benefits of being your own boss then you will have to overcome your fear sooner or later. In order to complete this task you must develop a strong desire to have good phone skills and let nothing stand in your way.

Think about it, when you are on the phone the other person can’t see you. They don’t know if you have messed up or said something wrong. They don’t know that you haven’t showered today. They can’t see that you are nervous or scared. Also, if you really get bogged down, and need to get out, all you have to do is hang-up. So, what are you really scared of? If it’s still rejection then get used to it! You will get rejected more times than not. We all do!

Don’t know how to start? Here are five basic techniques to help you in acquiring your new phone skills:

1) The Opening-If you are the one doing the calling then you must have a good way to open up the conversation. You really only have a few seconds before the person on the other end decides whether they are going to listen or not. There are a few things in your opening that you need to have; your name, the reason for the call, and why they should care about what you have to say. You should also be prepared with some basic opening information in case someone calls you out of the blue. Rehearse all of your openings often so it becomes like second nature to you.

2) Your Attitude-Smile during the conversation. It’s true that they can’t see you but smiling will make your voice sound positive, upbeat, and friendly. You also need to be confident. Your confidence will show them that you truly stand by your product or business. They must believe that they really need you. Remember “NO” might really mean “I still need to be convinced.”

3) Manners-It’s really easy to get caught up in a conversation and start talking like you do with your friends. Remember this is a professional call. Avoid repeated phrases or nervous laughs. Don’t chew gum or eat while on the phone. Also, keep your mouth a few inches from the phone so you aren’t too loud or muffled. Most of all, watch your language. Nothing will end your conversation faster than letting one of those naughty 4-letter words slip out.

4) Surroundings-It is best to be in a quiet and comfortable place away from distractions. If you are interrupted you may forget what you were saying causing you to sound very unprofessional.

5) Information-It is a very good idea to have everything you may need readily available. Have all information organized and accessible within seconds. At the very least you should have your website open, the compensation plan in front of you, and a list of answers to frequently asked questions handy. Another very important tool to have is a script. With a script you have your lines in front of you ready to go. However, it’s best not to totally rely on a script. I say this because the conversation can stray from it very easily.

Well, there you go! Now you have some basic techniques to help you squash your fear of phones and become more professional. I doubt you will be able to do it in one day but with some practice, repetition, and persistence you will sound like a veteran in no time. Trust me if you face your fear now it will pay off big later!

6 Simple Steps To Avoiding Expensive Car Repairs

Posted in University of Sports on July 23rd, 2008

Quite often, a visit to the car repair shop can be even more painful than a visit to your dentist. Perhaps physical pain it’s involved, but some car repairs can leave your wallet feeling pretty empty and you with a bad taste in your mouth. The best way to avoid costly repairs is to take preventative steps that will keep your car in the best condition possible.

The first thing to do is to follow the maintenance schedule as outlined in your owner’s manual. The best one is always that recommended by the manufacturer and if you fail to follow those guidelines, your warranty may be voided for future repairs. Always be sure to change fluids, filters and spark plugs as the car’s manufacturer recommends.

Upgrade your motor oil to a high performance synthetic oil, which can help to prevent certain problems and can also improve your car’s performance.

Always be sure that your tires are properly inflated. This is especially important because tires with too little air, or too much, can result in excessive wear and may cause a blow out. It is often recommended that tire pressure be checked during every visit to the gas pump. While this may seem like a lot, you won’t be sorry that you have kept your tires in the best shape possible. For reasons of both safety and the expense of new tires, this exercise is well worth it.

If you notice unusual noises on your car, check with your owner’s manual for information. Quite often, noises are perfectly normal and there is no need for concern. Your owner’s manual will let you know whether or not a visit to the car repair shop is necessary.

If you do have to take your car in for repairs, be sure that you are dealing with a reputable company. Check with the local Better Business Bureau and ask your family or friends for recommendations.

When it comes time to begin the repairs, get an estimate in writing. A quality repair shop will be able to provide this information and should also be able to assure you that the repairs will not exceed 10% of a specific dollar amount as outlined in the estimate.

The aforementioned steps will help to keep your car running smoothly and may also keep some extra bucks in your wallet. With the cost of gasoline prices these days, a few extra dollars can go along way.

What is the Secret About a Multilevel Marketing Business?

Posted in University of Sports on July 22nd, 2008

Maybe it is the stigma attached to it, that all MLM businesses are scam, fake and plainly out there to get your money. In fact nothing could be further from the truth. Yes, there are some nasty people out there who operate MLM businesses, but there are a whole lot of ethical, honest and fantastic business opportunities out there who will give you a once in a lifetime chance of becoming financially independent.

As Jim Rohn quotes “We all have two choices, we can make a living or design a life.”

An MLM business will give you choices in life, you wouldn’t normally have as an employee. It is a well known and proven fact, that the worlds most self made millionaires come from a Network Marketing business!

So what is Network Marketing, and why is it so special? Well, have you ever asked yourself, why products in the shops are so expensive? For example: The farmer in the field grows apples, once they are ripe he takes the produce to the market, where it is bid upon for a good price. The farmer then gets his cut! Now the buyer sets the price for the wholesale purchaser- who buys them, and then sells the apples to a shop/supermarket. So by the time you go shopping, a fare share of middlemen has taken their cut on your apple, therefore it is often unnecessarily expensive.

As opposed to above scenario, a Network Marketing business is run by an Independent Distributor who buys and sells the products directly to the customer! This effectively cuts out on unnecessary middlemen; therefore you as the customer will get proper value for your dollar. But it doesn’t stop there! The Independent Distributor delivers often outstanding personal after sale service you get free of charge and wouldn’t normally get while buying in a shop. Also, the overheads of a MLM business are very low compared to a traditional business, there is no staff to employ, no shop to lease, no goodwill to pay and generally very low start up costs. All in all a MLM business gives the Distributor a low risk chance of becoming financially independent!

You probably say to yourself now, yes, I can see that, but why is it then, that over 90% of MLM businesses fails within their first 2 years? It is simple, even if it sounds harsh. When people get into their own MLM business they often overestimate, what they can earn in the short term ( 1-3 years) and underestimate, what they can earn in the long term ( 3 + years)

It takes a hardworking, reliable, ethical, commited, disciplined and caring person, to run a successful Network Marketing business and it is coupled with a lot of tears, hard work, failure and joy. Also the individual has to commit to ongoing Personal Development.

Once you grow as a person, your business will grow!

So if you think you have what it takes, I suggest you seriously research these fantastic opportunities.

Key-Pointers When Buying A Second Hand Car

Posted in Cars + Wagons on July 14th, 2008

Buying a car from an individual or from a local car dealer is one tedious task if the objective is to purchase a second car that is still in good running condition. A buyer would never trade his hard-earned money with just a complete wasted used car. Whether new or used, when buying a car, it should be treated with the same importance and value.

There are things to take into consideration before buying the car and these are:

1. Educate yourself as a consumer
2. Prepare a list of your needs. Prioritize between the necessities and the wants.
3. Determine the budget and the kind of car that would best fit.
4. Make a selection by models and types. Narrowing them will be helpful.
5. Research both online and offline by dealers.
6. Know the value of the second hand car in the market.
7. Research the Vehicle Identification Numbers and history.
8. Take a mechanic when checking the car whether buying from a friend or a dealer.
9. Never shy away from asking questions.
10. If there’s a gut feeling about it not being good, don’t be afraid to walk away.

Bringing a mechanic along is always a good strategy. Make sure your mechanic inspects the totality of the car, from the history down to its last screw. It should be parked on a level spot. You should make certain that it was driven for about an hour. This should make it a good time to make the inspection. Always make it on a well lit surrounding and in broad daylight.

How to inspect it thoroughly:

Checking the exterior. Walk around to see if there is damage to the body. The corners of the car should be shaken and bounced up and down to see if the shock absorbers are still in good condition. Make sure that the wheel bearings do not make any sound when trying to pull the front tires by tugging them. Open the doors lift the hood and the trunk to see if all the rubber seals are still in place. This will also tell if there’s anything loose around the hinges. Check for signs of repaint. There will be difference in the color because shops can never duplicate the original paint of the car. Ask someone to turn on all the lights outside of the car and look if all are working. Cars with only 30,000 miles of travel must still have its original tires. Beware if you find a car with only a few miles of travel but has new tires. When the test drive is done, check the discs of the brakes, this should still be clean and smooth. Check the windshield for cracks.

Checking the Interior. Though it sounds odd, smell the insides of the car. Sniff under mats and the carpet. If it smells like mildew then it’s a sign that there is a leak somewhere or that the car may have undergone flood damage. Switch on the air-conditioning to make sure that it really turns the whole inside of the car cold. Next, try the heater. Try out all lights inside as well and never forget to blow the horn. Also try all the seat adjustments. The upholstery should still be in good shape too. There will be a lot more to check and here is where the mechanic can help the buyer.

Looking inside the trunk. Once more, smell the insides and check for any signs of leaks. Make sure that some basic car tools are still present for the new user.

Checking under the hood. Feel the wiring for any cracks or brittleness. Squeeze the hoses and the fan belt for any cuts and possible electrical tape patches. Do not take off the cap of the radiator until its cool enough. The greenish color indicates a good condition where the coolant is. Beware of stains and dirty-whitish color on the radiator. Again, let the rest be checked by the mechanic like the batteries.

Checking under the car. Lie down if you must and use an emergency light to see the engine underneath. Feel any signs of residue. Check the pipes and examine any possibility of heavy rusting.

Do the Test Drive. The owner or dealer should not stop a buyer from going over about twenty minutes of test drive. This is a special time to thoroughly look for any problems with the air-conditioning, heater, steering wheel, brakes, transmission, and most importantly, the comfort. Feel everything; it’s okay to try it on a hump or a slight bumpy road to really experience the performance. Listen carefully to check any rattles. Have a pen and paper, flashlight, gloves, magnet, towel, blanket and even CD or tape when checking a car out.

Read the Existence of DVD Gadgets

Posted in Online Media on July 12th, 2008

DVD recorders are unique from digital video recorders (usually abbreviated to DVRs) in that they record TV channels straight on a removable storage disc (more traditionally known as the DVD) instead of a hard disk drive. DVDs have today become an exceptionally suitable method for backing-up essential data because of their considerably enormous storage ability, endurance, price tag and flexibility.

Like that of a video cassette recorder (more commonly known simply as a VCR) the Digital Versatile Disc recorder has standard Audio and Video outputs and playback functions. Digital Versatile Disc Recorders more often than that allow one of these two, every so often both, though in practical circumstances they are more or less identical. Blank discs are cheap and recordings can be run in nearly roughly every player. DVD recorders with either an analogue and a digital receiver are able to hook-up to a set top box.

DVD recorders are undergoing a modification, adding a digital Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC for short) tuner if it has a tuner as ordered by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). DVD recorders are fast taking over from Video Cassette Recorder’s as the universal way to back up your loved television history programmes and movies. With Digital Versatile Disc recorders you can easily look at regular Digital Versatile Discs listen to audio Compact Discs and play back your stored discs. Snatch a bargain today with Digital Direct’s Cheap DVD recorders!

A DVD recorder uses a laser (usually 650 nm red) to read and write Digital Versatile Disc’s. The reading laser is commonly not stronger than five mW, even though the writing laser is very much stronger DVD recorders when they originally penetrate the electronics market a number of years ago were to a certain extent dear and the regular purchaser couldn’t afford to buy one. Although in the last couple of years they have extensively decreased in price & are at the moment available financially to most people.

    The Commerce of Obesity

Posted in Medical Hall on July 10th, 2008

In an interview with Pam Killeen of Crusador, Dr. Marion Nestle, noted food expert and author of Food Politics and Safe Food, reveals some interesting facts about the marketing of junk foods that have led to the obesity epidemic, including:

    • The appalling American diet may be, in part, collateral damage from having a food supply that provides 3,900 available calories for every man, woman, and child, resulting in a hypercompetitive market
    • Sugary breakfast cereals, even those advertising themselves as having whole grains or added vitamins, are basically cookies
    • The American Heart Association makes money by endorsing low-fat foods, even if those foods are high in fattening sugars
    • American federal dietary guidelines have been overcomplicated to the point that they are basically useless

Health Lies Exposed September 11, 2005

    Dr. Mercola’s Comment:

You’lldefinitely want to read this insightful interview with Dr. Marion Nestle, one of this nation’s leading experts in understanding the commercial influences on your nutrition. She reallyunderstandsthe commerce of obesity, meaning what processed food companies will do to sell their products at the expense of your health.

Interestingly, the interview began with an apology, of all things, from Dr. Nestle, because she felt bad about ignoring the vital link between agriculture and nutrition for far too long, which is more important than ever now with the rise in genetically modified foods.

Dr. Nestle, quite wisely, isn’t fond of most processed cereals — chock full of marshmallows, chocolate and candy as well as extra sugar and flour — which are, as she rightly points out, “Desserts in disguise.” She also slammed the most recent Food Pyramid, which hasn’t been much of an improvement over previous modelsand emphasized a “one-size-fits-all” approach. In other words, a recipe for disaster!

Just another reason to remind you, if you haven’t done it already, to take your free test to determine your body’s unique metabolic type.

Many of us fail to appreciate the profound influence of the quality of the soil and the specific farming techniques used and how it influences the nutritional characteristics of the foods you eat. If this is an area of interest for you, then you will certainly want to visit Acres USA,which publishes the only magazine related to sustainable agriculture.

They are the equivalent of mercola.com in the farming community and provide the most incredible information about soil health and how it ultimatelyinfluences your health. They also have some amazing live events that bring together the top people in this important field.

This article is reprinted from Mercola.com, the world’s #1 most visited and trusted natural/alternative health website. How I Selected The Best Notebook Computer For Intensive Number Crunching And Stock Market Analysis

Posted in Geeky Stuff on July 9th, 2008

Having used a desktop computers and notebook computers that had been officially supplied by the company where I was employed, there was no need to worry about what type of notebook computer or whatever configuration that was required in my work.

So when I finally had to purchase my own notebook computer for personal private use, I found myself facing a myraid of questions. Just what should I look out for when buying my own notebook computer?

First, I found I had to quantify my own needs for a notebook computer. Having quantified my needs, which was to do a lot of number crunching and to perform technical analysis and charting of stock prices online, I found that even low priced models could perform work that was demanded by my needs.

I was pleasantly surprised that my needs did not demand a high priced model.

Secondly, the notebook computer I required would need to be sufficiently light. In the process of identifying the notebook computer, I decided I did not need a subnotebook, as most notebook computers weigh between 5 to 7 kg, with a subnotebook weighing at 5 kg or less.

The standard notebook computer was sufficient for my needs coming with some wordprocessing software that was already installed as part of the package that comes with the computer and with Internet access capabilities. All I need was to install my specialized technical analysis program to monitor the stock prices.

At the same time, advances in notebook computer technology ensured that I had wireless technology and can hook up online at any hotspot outlet. This would allow me to have mobile wireless access anywhere I go. I could also use a pen drivefor additional mobile storage.

Finally, I also decided that I really do not need to use the provided upgrade functionality for the notebook, perferring to use the notebook for a period of two years at most. This was because I discovered parts and accessories were expensive, and going the way of upgrades to be expensive. Changing to a new model completely after two years appear to be a better proposition in terms of more power, functionality and cost savings.

Having made these decisions, the next step was to go online for a price comparison. Shopping online allowed me the convenience of researching each one of the notebook computer that caught my attention, without feeling pressured to make a quick decision.

There were some sites that allowed the added convenience of comparing different models side by side, and doing so was very useful in helping me to make my final decision on the notebook computer.

If you are faced with the task of purchasing your own notebook computer, the considerations which I have mentioned above will help you in your initial selection in making a wise decision.
